Making healthy food choices doesn’t come naturally. In fact, no matter where you are, there are advertisements and advertisements extolling the benefits of unhealthy eating. That’s how Americans live, live, work, and eat as fast as possible. “Damn the consequences, Full speed ahead!

The consequences can vary from bad to worse. For me it was a road trip with sirens blaring, lights flashing and paramedics giving me nitroglycerin. The journey was not fun, even scary. But it caught my attention!

Being a sixty-five year old young man, I wasn’t ready to ride a rocking chair just waiting to die. I want to live, be productive and enjoy life. So I decided that if I wanted to live – I was working on a record for Methuselah – I needed to make some changes to my life.

The first area I need to change is what I put in my mouth. They say you are what you eat. Eat junk and you will have an unhealthy body. After all, change for me doesn’t come easily unless I have a good reason for the change. So, here’s a list of reasons I make healthy food choices.

1) Say Goodbye To All Chemicals

Read the labels of the food you will serve to your family. See all the preservatives used to keep it from spoiling and better yet look at all the ingredients you can’t even pronounce let alone know the ingredients.

If they put sawdust in your food, why would they need to change their name to something you don’t understand. You don’t think they don’t want you to know that they put sawdust in your food, do you?

That’s one of the reasons I all make healthy food choices. All the different preservatives and chemicals contained in processed foods are unlikely to be good for you.

2) I want to enjoy the taste

One of the biggest reasons to make healthy food choices for yourself is the taste. I love tasting food! I love the strong taste of fresh fruits and vegetables. The reason so many vegetable dishes are served with vegetables marinated in mushroom soup or cheese sauce is because canned vegetables lack flavor. You need something to add flavor.

Try fresh green beans. They are loaded with flavour, delicious to enjoy and best of all packed with nutrients that are good for you.

Take the acorn squash, wash it and put it in the microwave for two to three minutes. When the skin is soft, split it in half, scrape off the seeds, add a little butter to each piece and you have a very good treat for you and the best part is that it tastes fantastic.

3) I Choose To Eat To Live Longer

Reports about obesity and all the health problems it causes are everywhere these days. From children to adults this problem is getting worse as people turn to fast food for their lunch and dinner.

Obesity puts a terrible stress on your heart, making it work twice as hard to function properly. Causes high blood pressure and all sorts of irreversible complications unless you lose that weight. Obesity is also directly related to diabetes, which is also on the rise here in America.

Eating healthy makes me feel better and have more energy. If you eat healthy, research shows that you can live longer and have fewer health problems than someone who doesn’t.

I want to live to enjoy my grandchildren and someday, their children. I know this is possible, so I choose to eat healthy to make sure I have as much time as possible with them. If eating healthy can make you live longer, I choose eating to live longer.

4) I Choose To Eat To Be Healthy

If making healthy food choices helps me stay healthy, then I choose to make healthy food choices. All around me, I can see evidence of making poor food choices. You can too. Just go people-watching in any mall or busy street corner and you’ll be overwhelmed with all the consequences of making poor food choices.

The great thing about making healthy food choices is that you can start at any time. As it is now! I didn’t do it until the ambulance ride caught my attention. Now I make healthy food choices every day. Every day it gets easier to make that choice, to say no to unhealthy foods and live a healthy lifestyle.

5) I Want To Enjoy My Family

If Making healthy food choices allows me to live a longer and healthier life so I can enjoy my family then I choose Healthy Food. I have eight children, eight grandchildren so far and a wonderful wife.

I want to be able to spend time, quality time with all of them to let them know how special they are and how much I love them.

I want to be able to spend more time with my wife. When you’re both working and you’re taking care of the kids, you don’t get to spend a lot of quality time with your partner. By making healthy food choices now, I hope, God willing, I’ll be spending lots of quality time with him.

Those are five reasons I choose to make healthy food choices. There are more reasons but you get the idea. Making healthy food choices is a matter of life and death. I choose life! I want to live! That’s why I love making healthy food choices!
